Medea as a Tragic Hero

The tragic hero that I chose to write about was Medea. In the play Medea, she showed many of the characteristics of being a tragic hero. She was once royalty in her life so she was brought up wealthy and as a princess. She possesses many tragic flaws in her personality that lead to her downfall in society.
In the first act, the Nurse begins the play by addressing the audience about Medea. She tells about Jason and Medea's lives after the arrived at Corinth. She talks about how good everything was and then how bad it all got. "The folk at Corinth were kind to her, they were proud of hre beauty, and Jason loved her." The Nurse is telling how it was when they first arrived. Then the Nurse says, "But Medea lies in the house, broken with pain and rage...or what more dreadful evil stalks in the forest of her dark mind." This is a good quotation that shows how the Nurse sees Medea after Jason left her. It shows that Medea had gone from a happy wife in a slow demise to an evil sorceress.

This is her downfall.

She was also able to create monsters, such as turning fire into snakes. Having these capabilities and being dreadfully unhappy, all ties into her tragic flaw. She was capable of getting revenge on Jason far worse than a mortal could ever do; such as when she gave Creusa the golden robe and crown. These gifts killed Creusa and Creon. When the robe and cro
