Often it comes down little acts of kindness, small words of
             encouragement, simple expressions of gratitude, or one act of
             determination. Small things are important because they do
             Very often in life it is the small gestures, isn't it? It's the spontaneous, agenda-less actions that are touching. But the sad part is, how many of us are capable of extending these small favors, or even appreciating that it's in the small, seemingly insignificant yet highly thoughtful gestures, true caring comes through. . I can recall several occasions when I have been lucky enough to experience thoughtfulness from friends, family and even total strangers. , This seems to be the ultimate in caring where nothing is expected in return. A knowing smile from a friend even in a crowd who can read exactly what is going through your mind at that moment, where words are too superfluous, what a marvelous feeling of contentment this brings. Or someone remembering what you like, and what you don't, even after years' of separation. Small pleasures, but how wonderful!
             Last year, I was hanging out with a friend at school when she suddenly said "Oh! I have a card for you!" My immediate reaction was total confusion. It wasn't my birthday.
