Othello

             "Othello" by William Shakespeare, is a play that has the topic jealousy as it`s main theme. Jealousy is developed throughout the play and by different characters. Othello is the main character of this play, he is a black man whose power is above most of all other characters. This is why Othello appears to be a strong man but in the end of the play we realize that he was hidden behind an image and that the real Othello was something we couldn't even imagine he would be.
             The villain in the play is Iago, he is a very smart and selfish person who started the jealousy in the play since he wanted the promotion of Michael Cassio. To get that promotion he must become the confident of Othello and somehow destroy Cassio`s reputation. All of the other characters were also involved in Iago`s game. Roderigo was the first person tricked by Iago, he was jealous of Othello because of Desdemona. Roderigo paid Iago to make Desdemona fall in love with him. Almost every character was influenced by Iago.
             Iago thought Othello was having an affair with his wife, and that is why he seek revenge. Iago made Othello think Desdemona was having an affair with Cassio, in order for Othello to kill him and Iago to get the promotion. Othello`s suspicions of Desdemona`s affair seemed to be true. This is when Othello`s stops being that unreachable powerful person and starts being real. When we are jealous, we don`t really see the truth, we see what we want to see. That is what is happening to Othello , he thinks he has lots of evidence to confirm Desdemona`s infidelity but he is really seeing what he wants to see. This is when we start to realize that Othello is not the hero type of person we thought he was, he is a very weak and insecure man that doesn`t realize Desdemona`s true love.
