Belief systems contain a variety of categories such as religiosity, spirituality, and magic, but all pertain to the supernatural powers or beings. What is the supernatural? Supernatural is believed to be not human or not subject to the laws of nature (Ember C. et al, 2005:549). Many different culture's around the world partake in such belief systems as religion, spirituality, and magic. It's these types of systems that hold and bring individuals of the same belief system together throughout the years to celebrate, pray, dance, etc.
             Religion is defined as any set of attitudes, beliefs, and practices pertaining to supernatural power, whether that power rests in forces, gods, spirits, ghosts, and demons (Ember C. et al, 2005:548). Types of religion can vary, from Christianity to Islam, Islam to Judaism, etc. However, there are some types of religion that we call "monotheistic" religions and others called "polytheistic." A Monotheistic religion is "one god", but includes more than one supernatural being. For example demons, angels, and the devil (Ember C. et al, 2005:548). Christianity is an example of monotheistic religion with "one god" that is worshiped, but the religion fears demons and the devil, but is protected and watched over by angels. Polytheistic religion recognizes many important gods, no one which is supreme. Aztec religion had numerous gods (Uitzilopochtli - the sun of god, Coyolxauhqui - the moon goddess, Quetzalcoatl - inventor of writing and the calendar) that ruled over their daily lives (2). Religion is seen throughout every culture and is one of the first ways of regulating social behaviour such as what is right and wrong? What is appropriate?
