City to Village

             Children of all countries are told a bedtime story about the country mouse which comes to visit the city mouse. After staying in the city for a while, the country mouse realized that it had been better off in its village. Having completed my high school, it was my time to find out if I was the country mouse.
             Whenever someone came from the city, s/he used to talk about the traffic jams and the pollution that were ruining their life. However, I saw things differently. Back in village I had to walk three miles back and forth everyday to reach my school but here in the city there are many different public transports plying around the city that make traveling much easier and quicker. It takes only about thirty minutes to reach my university from my home which is about fifteen miles away. I remember it would take almost four to five hours to cover the same distance on a bullock cart in my village. Although traffic jams could be seen as a setback, this is heaven compared to the long and painful journeys on the bumpy roads of my village.
             Then, in the village women make all the food, serve the men, clear the table, wash the dishes, clothes, raise and bear the children. On the other hand, I noticed that in the city every member of the family shares the household chores. In addition to that, women here in the city, just like men, go to work and earn money in contrast to women back in my village where if a women tried to work that would probably be regarded as a sin. It is about time that women are given more freedom in my village.
             It is often said that in the city people lack the sense of belongingness because of the fact that families tend to be really small and siblings do not live together like in the village. However, when I look back at the big families held close together in the village it reminds me of frequent strife, envy and gossip among themselves.
