There is controversy between whether power is an attribute of a person, or an aspect of a relationship between two or more people. In the essay there are a few main points that I have addressed and debated.
The first point is whether some one is born with power, or if power is developed and is an aspect of a relationship. The second point that is addressed is whether power changes with changing circumstances and situations. The third point is a debate of whether people choose to have power or whether they are just pushed into power by others.
One of the most controversial debates is whether people are born leaders. It is believed by some that people who are born with certain attributes are natural leaders. One of the broader attributes that make someone a leader is power. The question you have to ask yourself is can someone be born with power. The definition of power is a person who exercises control, influence, or authority. Power can be seen as being physical, mental, or informational (Three Dimensions of Power).

If someone is born on a deserted island, can they be born with power? Surely for that person to have power they would have exercise control, influence, or authority over someone, but no one is on the island, therefore there is no power to be had. This example illustrates that power only exists in a relationship, and one can not be born with power.
