Inappropriate Ethics

Inappropriate ethics in written work does not benefit anybody. It may save the student time but what are they learning. Nothing! Appropriate ethics shows what kind of person you are and shows those around you how much your school and future mean to you. Plus, a student who uses appropriate ethics in writing will benefit in the long run with better writing skills and a better understanding of what a well written paper should look like. According to Bickford in his article "Paper Presentation," being able to write a good, easy to understand, and to the point paper is without a doubt the most important skill a student can learn from college and take with them into their career of choice.
Appropriate ethics would include writing your own papers and avoiding any form of plagiarism. Under prohibited conduct on page two in The Code of Student Conduct for Ohio State University it states that "plagiarism is the representation of another's work or ideas as one's own; it includes the unacknowledged word-for-word use and/or paraphrasing of another person's work, and/or the inappropriate unacknowledged use of another person's ideas." It is also considered plagiarism if you use a paper that was written for a previous class for the class you are currently in. If a student fails to use these appropriate ethics then they could be charged with academic misconduct which could result in anything from the grade of the assignment to be lowered to the most severe which would be dismissed from school.
If a student wants to get the most out of school and reach their potential, the way to do that is appropriate ethics in writing. Being honest and doing the work will only make a student a better person and writer. You actually have to do the work in order to improve.
