Catcher in the Rye is about a 16 year old boy who is torn between being immature and his idea of maturity. Symbolisms of utmost relevance are used to shape the whole story into something intriguing.
             His being kicked out from 4 schools gives the reader an idea of how he sets out living his life. Obviously he doesn't care about a lot of things. But what he does think about mostly are things that people don't usually notice on a daily basis. Taking for example the ducks on Central Park. For a normal person, on a normal day one wouldn't think were the ducks go in winter. It's just not something that one devotes a little of time thinking. But Holden, really tries to know what does happen to these ducks. Another thing is things that depress him big time. In the process of the story, there a lot of things that are said to depress him. It is in this part of the story that bequeaths a lot to the meaning of the story. It defines what and who Holden is. Him meeting some people on his way has made him think differently of a lot of things. For example, the matter about suitcases. In reality, whatever brand of suitcases you have, it doesn't really matter. There is one part that for me, displays what I think this story, in truth, expresses. It's the part where he refuses to enter the museum. He didn't want to because he was afraid to face the fact that he has changed. All of what's in there has remained the same over the years. Yet he, on the other hand has changed through time.
             These kinds of predicaments present in the story, patches up things. It begins to tell a story of an idealistic boy who thinks everything should be the way he wants it to be. But in truth, all and sundry would think that what he desires is unfeasible.
