"People say that a book shouldn't be judged by its cover, though at the same time they judge a person by their appearance" In life as well as in literature people get judged by their appearance. Some of these judgments cause death or extreme alienation from the society. The book To kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, a non fiction article by James C. Foster "A Murder in Virginia " and "The Scottsboro Boys Trial " by Douglas O. Linder demonstrate a perfect example of people getting judged by their appearance and not by the facts. Black men were being accused of crimes that they have not committed; as a result their lives were taken away.
             Moreover, throughout history, there was always discrimination between black men and white men. The whites were always in power of the blacks and had more to say in society. In politics and in courts the whites came first and their voices were in power. People believed everything that a white man had to say, and accused a black man of false crimes. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird ,a black character by the name of Tom Robinson, was accused of raping and abusing a 16 year old white girl. All the evidence showed that Tom Robison was innocent, though he was still considered guilty due to his skin color. Having no choice but to run away, Tom Robison was killed by the guards while running to freedom, which was taken aways from him unfairly.
             In addition, the journalist by the name James C. Foster wrote an article "Murder in Virginia". The article depicted that a "black man and three black woman were accused of axe-murdering a white woman in rural Lunenburg Country Virginia in the year of 1895." There was no evidence found that the black people killed the white lady, though they were still accused of murder and were killed.
