             First and foremost Gracyk gives us the real history of rock music starting from the beginning the 1950's. In the 50's rock music reached the mainstream and captivated the youth of America. (206) At the time popular rock was nothing more than rebellious dance music written for young teenagers. Rock had no social or political message other than dance, buy sharp clothes and parents just don't understand. By shedding light on this period of rock history Gracyk successfully shows that many rock artists of the 1950's "dreams were, mostly about making hit records and money." (206)
             Not until the 60's, with the help of groups like the Beatles, did rock reach its status as a somewhat respected art form. (202) Rock was no longer the teeny bop it once was; it became political, cutting edge, dangerous and mysterious.
