A year went by before William Sanderson, a merchant banker, gave White his ship the "Moonlight" to take supplies to the colony, but White could not ride on the ship back to America. So Raleigh, on White's insistence secured him passage on a privateer, the "Hopewell". Therefore White returned to the colony just under three years, instead of five to six months which he had promised.
