Julius

             Brutus and Cassius are characters that are often bickering over petty things. They also cannot help but bring things up from the past. Brutus is often on top at the end of these confrontations as Cassius is subdued by Brutus' ideas even though they are not always logical.
             Brutus is a very dominant character in the play Julius Caesar. Brutus will get his way over Cassius because his thoughts are intimidating to Cassius' views. Brutus himself states one example of his dominance:
             Brutus: Speak no more of her.- Give me a bowl of wine.-
             In this I bury all unkindness, Cassius.
             Cassius: My heart is thirsty for that noble pledge.-
             Fill, Lucius, till the wine o'erswell the cup;
             I cannot drink too much of Brutus' love. (VI iii 183-187)
             Through this passage Brutus is telling Cassius to forget about Portia's death. Brutus does not want to mourn on things of the past. He is doing what most men would do which is to drink in her honor. Cassius does not want to at first but is overcome by Brutus' dominance. Another example of Brutus's supremacy can be seen when Cassius speaks: "Then with your will, go on; We'll along ourselves and meet them at Philippi." (VI iii 256-257) After almost a page of bickering over whether to go after Anthony or wait for him Brutus' authority comes through at the end. Cassius blatantly says as you wish we shall go and find his army. He is not overwhelmed about the decision. Cassius point is smarter than Brutus here because Cassius thought ahead and wants Anthony's army to be exhausted. Cassius is tired and says, "No more. Good night." His words are short and to the point, enough said just drop the issue.
