The office of General was an office where an individual could serve for a significant amount of time since they could be reelected multiple times. While other civilizations of the world were either monarchies, hierarchical, or tyrannical societies: Pericles placed the state of Athens in the hands of the citizen. The democratic model that was Athens paved the way of modern democracy.
             Athenian democracy consisted of three main political institutions; these institutions were the Assembly, the Council of 500, and the People's Court. The three branch model, the United States, adopted the model from the Athenians, was based on the use of a three-branch system that was first implemented by the Athenians.
