             "The lack of opportunity in India compelled me to take up a one-year job offer extended to me by Dada Abdullah & Co, an Indian law firm, as the legal representative of the Muslim Indian Traders in Pretoria city, South Africa. I was 24 years old when I left for Natal."              He let out a stifled laugh as if to hide the pain and continued, "I was thrown off trains, beaten by coach drivers, banned from hotels and ordered to remove my turban among other hardships, and with every incident, my determination to protest and stand up to these injustices grew stronger. The system of apartheid that supported racial bias to the extent of denying South African Indians the right to vote, changed my plans just as I was about to leave and go back to India.
