In the World State, science gives God-like powers to a very small number of individuals. The ruling caste controls and determines every aspect of the individual's life much like an omniscient God. Furthermore, science has conferred a near God-like power over life. Every individual within the World State is incubated from conception until "birth" through entirely artificial means. The Christian religious belief system views life as a gift conferred by God, but in the World State, science is the power that produces life.
Science, as a semi-religious institution, occupies the position of self-evident "truth" in the World State, so it justifies using the God-like powers conferred by science to solidify "social stability." Ford's mode of assembly line production provides the means to use science in this way. The Predestinators project the needs for various members of each caste, and the Hatchery produces human beings according to their figures. This directly follows the economic rules of supply and demand. Human beings are mass produced on an assembly line like any other manufactured good. Human life is made cheap by the Podsnap and Bokanovsky processes. Moreover, like any other mass- produced good, human beings are standardized by the production of thousands of brothers and sisters in multiple groups of identical twins.
Only the three lower castes are produced in Bokanovsky groups. The production of the lower castes as an indistinguishable faceless horde echoes the class prejudices of some Social Darwinist theories. Moreover, the Bokanovsky groups destroy free will by limiting individuality among the lower casts, all in the name of "stability." The conditioning before and after birth determines the individual's behavior, turning the lower classes into automatons, or machines. They become automatons in every way, all in the name of "stability." Everyone undergoes the full process of conditioning, but the upper castes retain more ...
