A tragic fact about pollution is that it is a lot cheaper and easier to pollute than to clean up the pollution or to follow guidelines as to what to do with the pollution and how to dispose of it properly. Many businesses were, and are, unwilling to willingly spend money that then could otherwise turn into a profit. The damage we cause today by dumping waste into the ocean or creating more smog in the city will very unlikely be seen by those who create it. It will become the problem of his children and his children's' children. Laws concerning environmental protection attempt to reduce the causes of environmental damage today to reduce the amount of damage that they cause in the future.
