Character Analysi on Montresor

             The story "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Poe, is a short story told through the eyes of Montresor. Montresor is the main character in this story, he is a complex character with many traits. Three of the more obvious traits Montresor has are; he is sensitive to what is said, he expect the worst of people, and he is very precise. Montresor uses these traits ad more to obtain his goal for the perfect revenge.
            
             Beging sensitive to what is said Montresor worst trait. It is this trait which drives his obsession for revenge, "but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge." Although the insult was never mentioned, no insult could be so horrible for the revenge Montresor has in store.
            
             Montresor expects the worst from people. This trait shows his independence and this also helps him set his revenge. In the "madness of the carnival" Montresor tells his servants to stay home that night, but by expecting the worst of people he knows his servants thinking he is away they will not stay.
            
             The third trait which Montresor has is being precise. Montresor shows this by having his plan for revenge worked our to the finest detail. He knew that Fortunato "prided himself on connoisseurship in wine." Knowing this Montresor lured Fortunato into the catacombs with a tale of Amontillado. Montresor had the place picked our that the bricks waiting. He also carried this trowel with him " from beneath the folds of my roquelaire a trowel." This allowed Montresor to get away with the perfect crime. ...
