Addmitence Essay

             I started high school with every intention to make the most of it and I did. I was playing football, I got straight A's first quarter and even had a girlfriend, just like in the movies, but halfway through my freshman year thing started to turn. My parents decided to separate. My mother and I moved from Durango, CO to Montrose, CO where she had grown up. This situation worked just fine except for one minor detail. Two years before my mother had been in a bad car accident injuring her back and acquiring a permanent disability. She is unable to get though a normal day without resting or taking medications for the pain, let alone work a full time job. She does get a $600.00 check once a month but that is barely enough for her to live on. To compensate, in addition to going to school I work full time at Russell Stover Candies and have worked my way up to Enrober Operator on the night shift. I realize my index number is a little low but I don't feel a number can justly reflect a person, this is why I am sharing this with you. My mother has always wanted me to go to college, and actually I will be the first one in my family to go to college.
             Though high school was somewhat of a struggle having to work I still was an involved member of the high school. I am an active member and officer of the Future Business Leaders of America and have been now for four years. I attend Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and belong to S.A.V.E., our community-recycling club. I have been recognized by the Who's Who Among American High School Students and have been in Honor Society, the Gifted and Talented program, and a volunteer at the local library in the summers. I have two passions in my life-my family and baseball. I save enough money during the other sport seasons to play baseball every spring. I have been a varsity letterman for four years and I would like to play for UNC next year as a walk-on. If I'm accepted to UNC I plan to ...
