These days women have more options with what they can do with
their lives than ever before. Being female at this point in history means so
much more than what it has. Women can mean "lawyer," "doctor,"
"engineer," "politician," and so on, and yet still it possesses one of its
simplest and earliest meanings: companion and caregiver. Women now live
independent or with that choice anyway, not because there are no other
Not fifty years ago most girls were pampered early on, unlike boys
who were expected to be "tough" and one day support a family. Girls,
however, were expected to give care, so they were shown great care. They
were allowed to pass their high school days without goals or ambitions, nor
were they really allowed to get a job unless it was absolutely necessary.
Their parents would usually take care of their expenses. Ambition was
accepted in girls but never encouraged.
Slowly women have become a force to be reckoned with. Some girls
decided they wanted something different for their lives, not necessarily
better but different. They decided to support themselves and live by their
own means. Women started attending colleges in larger number beginning in
the sixties. They desired an education. By having an education they didn't
need to be supported by men and therefore could not be forced into a
compromising situation due to lack of financial support. They got jobs right
along with men. Women have advanced in all fields of business proving
women can actually think and perform under pressure in complex situations.
Although, they are patronized because of their supposed fragility.
