The American Dream is in my opinion the ideals set by families
in America to achieve goals that are generally unrealistic to achieve. An
example would be the picture of a wealthy middle class family with two
children, one boy and one girl, with a dog and a cat all in a nice house with
two loving parents and they all get along with no problems whatsoever. The
American Dream can also be interpreted as making a lot of money very
easily and other things of that sort. There is a problem with the American
Dream though, it is the fact, as I stated in the above lines that it is unrealistic
and not fully achievable, no one can have the perfect life because everone
has a problem somewhere with someone or something. Also if you have
by some miracle achieved the American dream, you will be all alone in the
The nineteen twenties was an interesting decade. I suppose the
twenties were called the Gay Twenties due to the fact that people were very
happy back then. There were a lot of enjoyable things, such as the style of
music and what people did for fun. The novel The Great Gatsby reflects the
nineteen twenties because the storyline took place in the twenties. Also the
attitude that people had back then is displayed in this book. The book
portrays the twenties as a fun time to be living in.
The setting of the novel takes place in two cities called West
Egg and East Egg, which I still do not know the symbolic meaning of them
but in the book the cities were explained that they were actually in the shape
of eggs. They are in New York I think, but if they are not then they are
somewhere very close, because the characters are frequently going to New
York city and variouse places on Long Island. Also, almost a whole chapter
takes place in an apartment in the city.
