The day had started out smoothly; a day like any other. I woke up in the morning with the same smile I'd carried on my face since I'd married my precious Cathy the year before. Never would I have guessed that this sunny day would be the one my beloved wife would shoot me and then leave me forever.
As I arose for the day I looked over to my sleeping wife and smiled with pleasure. I thought to myself that she had become even more beautiful since she delivered our two beautiful sons just two weeks earlier. Looking in on the boys I beamed with pride.

Later in the evening I walked up to Cathy's room to find her rummaging through her belongings. It seemed as if she were readying to leave. After pleading with her for some time she finally went back into her room, locking the door behind her. I thought I had won the argument until she came out again toting a pistol in her hands. Before I could say anything a shot rang out hitting me squarely in the shoulder and forcing me to the ground.
I lay there on the floor by her room for what seemed like hours before my servant, Lee, found me. Nothing mattered anymore- not my land, my house, not even my two sons. All I knew was that she was gone and probably never coming back.
For over a year I contemplated this day; going over it in my head for hours and hours. I ignored all else. The house fell into disarray; the lands became overgrown; and my boys' raising was left up to Lee. Life stayed like this until my neighbor Sam Hamilton finally intervened.
