In the movie, Lord of the Flies, 25 English school children were aboard a plane when it
crashed on a deserted island, miles away from civilization. The pilot died, forcing the children
to survive all on their own. They started using survival tactics, hunting for food, lighting fires to
signal any passing airplanes and gathering together to discuss each persons role. Jack and Ralph
were the two main characters. Attempting to establish a democracy, they elected Ralph as the
leader. Ralph was trying to keep everyone together, keep the children calm, which was working
untill the group starting to split. A boy named Jack disobeyed all the rules, and forced everyone
to rebel against Ralph. The group started seperating, good vs. evil. Jack and his followers
turned wild, killing everything that got in their way, soon there was rivalries between the two
groups. Ralph and Piggy (the one boy that remained with Ralph throughout the movie), kept
their heads straight. Their main worry was getting off the island. They were the ones who kept
the fire lit, and tried to signal passing ships, while Jack and his group, were turning into beasts,
killing not only animals, but also some children. One boy thought he saw a beast while hunting
for food, he ran back and immedialty told Jack. They soon became obsessed with finding this
"beast". Days laters, at one of their nightly rituals, they brutally stoned a boy to death, claiming
they thought it was the beast. They were living in total chaos and disorder. Eventually, they
killed Piggy and attempted to kill Ralph. At the end of the movie, they were living in complete
anarchy, with no rules and no ruler.
An absence of government can lead to violence, disorder, and even murder. This movie
gave an excellent example of what can happen if we were to live under anarchy. In everyones
