Our society today is much different from the society our parents experienced. And the society our parents experienced is much different from the society their parents experienced. Most people want equal rights and benefits, although that is not always the case when it comes to the United States. Equality is growing every day. One of the biggest controversies in our society today is the question of same-sex marriage. Homosexuals should not be allowed to marry due to the sanctity of marriage, but they should be allowed to have a union together. Homosexuals should be just as equal as heterosexuals when it comes to their relationship.
             As of right now, homosexuals are denied access to certain benefits because they do not have equal rights. Homosexual couples are unable to rent a car, unable to go into their partner's hospital room, able to lose their housing and their children, and able to lose their job all due to a personal choice. Everyone is equal, despite their color, race, gender, or sexual preference. People should not discriminate because there is definition of normal. Anyone can be discriminated against. Homosexuals are a minority group, but they should be allowed to make their own choices and decisions just like everyone else.
             As long as homosexuals are in a mutually supportive and committed relationship, with the capacity of nurture and love, they should be allowed to have a union together just like heterosexuals are allowed to marry. Marriage is not a creation of the law, and neither is the power of love. Laws only regulate and recognize the institution of marriage. We may not understand how homosexuals feel, but they do. They understand their power and strength of their love just as heterosexuals understand their own relationships. There is no definition of love, because everyone has their views and opinions on the definition of love.
