I think that Quayle did contradict himself. If he felt that it was a bad thing for a mother to raise a child alone, then there should be nothing better by the father raising the child. I think Quayle doesn't care if both of the parents are their, or he would not have referred to the community, or extended family to pitch in and help. I believe that it would be beneficial for both of the parents to be there for the children. Nine times out of ten it is the father of the child that cannot handle what is going on, and therefore leaves. This in my opinion is not a man and should have never been in a sexual relationship with anyone. If you are a responsible and educated adult you would be aware of the fact that there is a chance of pregnancy. If you are not ready for that possibility then you have no business having sex. I agree with him that if a child is without one or the other, I think that it is a good idea for someone to set an example, but that no one could replace that parent. If you were not meant to be with the one that you have the child with, that doesn't give you the right to be a coward, and run from that child. I guess that this was not very fair of Quayle for what he had said, and that I think that if it had to be one or the other that it shouldn't matter the sex. What should matter is who is better in a position to care for the child's needs, and what is in the child's best interest. This is a very hard subject to write on, because it all depends on the home life you were raised in, and what your beliefs are on the subject.
