It addresses the issue of the future, through the use of symbolism and imagery. Firstly, Skrzynecki views the future in a positive way for example- 'to look for shorelines' This is a sign of new home and hope for the future. "That Time was hoisting in mock salute." This line is suggesting that they are not in control of destiny, and therefore heightens uncertainty about future. In these two lines he contrasts the positive and negative aspects of the future. Skrzynecki uses daybreak to symbolise the migrant's futures, which is viewed in quite a positive way. Also at the end of the poem he has viewed the future in a positive light by using the word horizon. Finally, in Crossing the Red Sea, as well as the physical journey, we follow the psychological journey of the migrants.
