             My personal opinion on why Craven wrote this book is that she wanted to see how much native culture can change and still remain nurturing and strong. Craven deals with the issue of native identity in a thoughtful manner, presenting opposites: those who wish for complete cultural resolution, and those who are stuck in a calcified tradition continued by myth which can, at times, override. Native myths, customs, and character are described with a consistency and vigour which commands attention throughout the novel. Craven creates a world which is different from ours, and reveals it through the experiences of a man who is destined to die. The author presents her characters and their setting with an understanding which speaks of intimate knowledge, almost as if she was there.
             This is a beautiful story by Margaret Craven about a reverend named Mark, that earns the respect of Indians. This boy talks about the experiences of the revern when he is in the village. He proves that he is worthy by fixing up a ruined vicarage. He also discovers the ultimate truths of life and love, courage and dignity, among the Indians of the Northwest. His return from modern civilization to a remote village represents his return to the beauty, innocence and inspirational power. He is a young vicar who has not more than two or three years to live, because of an illness, which he doesn't notice before two years. He is really interested in the Indian lifestyle and there habits, he tries to help the Indian wherever it's possible.
             Mark is sent in the Village Kingcome, because his Bishop thinks that if he has so few time to learn that would be the best for him. There Mark learns about the culture of the Indian, their stories and their language. But he also confronted with the fact that the Indians will disappear from the surface in the next time.
