So most people who are living on the street have given up knowing any other way of life" (Cahill, 27). This was recorded from Cahill. He was homeless for several years until get said he found God and he helped him get threw it. The subject for the 4th week of the Discussion Board for my Intro to Service Learning class we were giving the topic "Homelessness". I felt like I knew about homelessness and that and what I thought I knew was the truth. See, I work at a shop in Downtown Johnson City TN. I work in a very rough area. It got to a point where I would not even look twice at a hooker walking down the road or a bum staggering side to side with a 40 in his fist. So, from my view point I jumped right in with the discussion and stated my thoughts on every homeless person, which were worthless human beings that were laze and lived off America's hard working citizens. How blind I was!
             When I reed the handout which gave us the topics that were free to write on I thought homelessness would be a very easy topic to wrote a paper on because I already thought I new the truth about homelessness. This all changed when I found my first source for the paper. I started my research with the book "Homeless In America". It's a joint project of The National Mental Health Association and Families For The Homeless. This book really was an eye opener for me. It's a book of photography taken of the homeless and some of their stories. It states the problem, the people, and how you can help. I also found a very helpful book that Hoch Slayton wrote "New Homeless and Old Homeless".
