             Each gladiator was different. They were usually prisoners from
             previous battles the Roman army had faced, but some were slaves sold into
             being a gladiator. They were dressed as certain enemies would look like
             when the Roman army used to conquer new lands and encounter new
             peoples. Although there were a few lesser know gladiators such as
             Lacquearius, Dimachaerus, and Eques, the types I have listed are the most
             common. There are six types. The first type of gladiator was called Samnite.
             He is named after the people of the region of Samnium, an early enemy of
             Rome. These were in the division of the heavily armored gladiator. Usually
             he would wear a visited helmet with a high top, and decorated with feathers.
             For body protection he wore a metal band on his sword hand and a metal
             plate on his opposite leg. For him he also carried a large square shield. This
