Is America still the land of opportunity? The question is somewhat misleading. Where in a land where there is much opportunity, there also exists an over-increasing shackling of those who would exploit those opportunities. Can it really be maintained that America is still the land of opportunity? The domestic imposition of increased taxation, government regulation, and gave policies that favor foreign competition over American businesses have all worked to shackle and restrain American entrepreneurs from exploiting many of the opportunities that exist in America.
             One could argue the prevailing prosperity apparent in America manifests an ever-increasing exploitation of prevailing opportunities, but a closer look at what has happened relegates against such a conclusion. Today the Federal government is the leading employer in America. Also, much of the prevailing prosperity has resulted in the government's deficit spending that has created a distorted demand for goods and services. In short, the existing prosperity has been purchased with debt dollars burdening future generations. The prevailing prosperity is supported by debt only.
             Yes the government has imposed increased regulation impeding expansion, but the ever expanding technological growth opened new fields of opportunities. The communication and computer fields are examples thereof. The governments winning of the law suit against Microsoft restricting its growth to mandate the smaller competition to be allowed to share in Microsoft's cultivation market turf shackles and impedes Microsoft's future.
             Yes trade practices are favoring domestic purchasing of foreign imports due to the low prices of such goods but goods that might otherwise be produced overseas and imported for American consumers. As a result the increased opportunities in America are service related such as flipping burgers at McDonalds.
