To kill a mockingbird

One of the most famous quotes in To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee is:
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from is points of view- until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." (Page 33)
This can be closely referred to many characters and families in this novel. Many people in Maycomb tend to tease and treat "different" people like outcasts, with out thinking why they are like the way that they are.
A good example of somebody being judged before the people of Maycomb try to understand him is one of the main characters, Arthur (Boo) Radley. After a troubled childhood, and making some bad decisions, Arthur decided to stay out of the community's way and stay inside his run down house. After being inside his house for twenty five years, a lot of the people in Maycomb started to spread rumors about him and they told their children how evil and terrifying he was, they did take into account that he was nice as a child. No body tried to see why Arthur was like this, and why he decided to stay out of everybody's way. The only person who came across as having some respect for him, was Atticus Finch. He believed that there was good in everybody especially Arthur Radley:
"Thank-you for saving my children, Arthur." (Page 305)
Another person that Atticus saw the good in and nobody else did was Tom Robinson, as well as black people in general. Everybody believed that Tom was guilty, and at the start so did Atticus, but towards the end of the court case he believed that Tom was innocent and he proved this by placing evidence together. Atticus convinced a member of the jury that Tom was innocent through the evidence and his strong closing statement:
"He would not have dared strike a white woman under any circumstances and expect to live longer, so he took the first opportunity to run." (Page 215)
