             thinks about his mothers disapproval of his enlisting. And how when he told her that he
             was going to enlist she told him "Henry don't be a fool". He also thought about all the
             horror stories the older soldiers tell the younger ones about the war. He wonders whether
             or not when faced with battle if he will run or stand his ground. This becomes a very
             large problem to Henry and is talked about a lot throughout the first half of the novel. Jim
             Conklin comes in the tent and Henry asks him whether or not people start to run when
             the fighting starts. Jim thinks that some of them may run but for the most part none of
             them do. Jim's rumor turns out to be wrong and the regiment stays put there for a few
             more days which gives Henry more time to think about his problem of whether or not he
