Yes, all Michigan high schools should require metal detectors. This is because metal detectors create a safe and secure environment.
             Metal detectors make an environment safe and secure by catching people that are trying to bring weapons in the school, and also by discouraging them from thinking about bringing them to school. The consequences of bringing a weapon and getting caught are often to high a risk for most people to take. The Violence Institute of New Jersey at the University of Medicine and Dentistry released a 1996 study, which reported that: "[Approximately eight] percent of New Jersey high school students said they had taken a weapon to school in the last 30 days, 6.6 percent said they had been threatened or injured with a weapon on school property at least once during the year." If we took our school for example, a high school of a mere maybe 400 people, that means that approximately 26 out of 400 people were assaulted. Many students would feel that this is a high risk situation and they would rather miss school that be assaulted.
             About four percent of high school students reported they stayed out of school at least one day in the past 30 days because they felt threatened. Not only would it discourage people from bringing guns it would also make students more comfortable coming to a safe environment everyday. The metal detectors would then also increase attendance, which is a big problem in most schools. Due to better attendance grades would also go up since more people are present for class. If people are in class instead of at home they are not only learning new life skills but also they are not doing things they shouldn't be, like drugs. So by putting in metal detectors a chain reaction occurs and everything falls into place.
