Violence in the Media

             In today's society we are consumed with the violence that is portrayed in media. Everywhere one turns there is an article, TV program or song that deals with the issue of violence. We know that violence is a terrible thing, but still we are unable to avoid being interested and entertained by it. One issue that is of recent public concern is the amount of violence being portrayed in music today, and the effect it has on our daily lives. In the song Kill You by notorious but successful rapper Marshal Matters, also know as Eminem; he expresses his views on violence in many different aspects. In the news release article Music Video's May Affect Adolescents View of Violence, the author talks discusses the effect of violent music videos and how they distort teenager's views on everyday situations. Violence in music affects an individuals view on the treatment of women, one's outlook on conflict resolution, and lastly has an impact on our perspective when dealing with domestic violence as a serious crime. Even though aggression is intrinsic to human beings, are violent natures are further perpetuated by our media, especially in the form of music.
             A main concern with violence in music is its contribution to violence against women. Many believe that our music today is changing or having an influence on our views about relationships or just about women in general. More and more songs and music videos are being produced with lyrics or images of women being mistreated or offended in some way. These messages sent to younger viewers may encourage them to carry out the violence they see or hear in the media; or possibly even send the message that this type of behaviour is expectable, and maybe worst of all condoned by our society.
