I am writing this letter to tell you that I understand what you are going through and that I am here to help you by offering you some suggestions to help you change your life for the better.
You led a protected childhood with parents who have always had a lot of money. Then you moved into adolescence and entered the rebellious phase that all teenagers go through. You may have gotten older physically but you have not matured mentally.
Let go of it. Advance into the next stage and discover who you really are thereby becoming the individual you so desperately want to become. You should seriously consider making an appointment with a psychologist because these are trained professionals who can help you overcome your issues.
A major issue that you have is seeing people as "phony's". Allot of people are phony's but even more are not. Get over it! This view of people is a hypocritical one. When you met Mrs Morrow on the train you lied about her son and you lied about your name when you said that you where "Rudolf Schmit"
Another hypocritical view is how you think that lying is a terrible thing to do and serves no purpose other then to hurt people. Yet you lie repeatedly and seem to be proud of it. You admitted this when you said that you are "the most terrific liar you ever saw". You are only lying to yourself.
Holden, you seem to think that sex, smoking and drinking is the formulae to becoming an accepted adult, but you are wrong. You are putting nothing but a phony image of yourself across to other people. If you would only give it a try you would realize that people will accept you for who you really are. These activities that give you a "bang" are not healthy.
If Stradlater is such a large irritation to you then you should simply distance yourself from him. Find some people with whom you can be completely home, then you will have found some true friends.
