Growth even as an adult?

There are many events in life that can change people. Things can happen that can completely change the way a person feels about something. People can go from racist to accepting and from ignorant to alert just because they have learned about it and therefore have lost their innocence or are no longer ignorant about the subject. The reason she says this is to try and comfort Scout. She is very worried about the children and she has learned that she needs to comfort them in certain situations. This quote shows how Aunt Alexandria grows as she learns about dealing with kids by giving them the attention and care the need when it is needed as opposed to punishing them.
