In this paper I'm going to talk about how the Asian-American men and women, in today's society, are classified and how they face forms of ideological racism. Espiritu talks about the gendering of ethnicity related to the Asian-American person. Espiritu says this about the gendering of ethnicity, "the process whereby white ideology assigns selected gender characteristics to various ethnic "others"(175). As Americans, we have certain ideas about other ethnicities and how they should be characterized. As in the Asian male, Americans tend to see them as "wimpy," or more feminine than masculine. In today's society, white men are seen as the protectors and more desirable to women. White men are shown to have all the power, whereas Asian men are shown to be feminine and not appealing to women. As showed in class, the movie, "Slaying the Dragon," Asian men are shown to be not romantic at all and always showed the Asian woman with the white man. Espiritu also says, "Asian males yield to the sexual superiority of the white males who are permitted filmically to maintain their sexual dominance over both white women and women of color"(179). The white man has always been shown to be the romantic and the hero type. Asian men have been put into serving roles where they serve the white man and have no power for themselves. Another popular image applied to Asian males in movies was that they were always evil and trying to take over the world. There was no sensuality felt towards them at all. They were always portrayed as evil to protect the ideology that white men were always the good guy and the more powerful of the two. In movies, the Asian man, no matter how much power he seems to have, is always defeated by the white man, showing the superiority of the white males to the Asian males.
             The Asian female also faces this gendering of ethnicity. Film has created two stereotypes...
