The proof that Greeks were a group of people with a lot of imagination is in the book called Mythology. They had an explanation for everything. The amazing thing about Mythology is that it brings all the myths, legends, and tales together. When this is done we begin to notice patterns in the stories. We can also draw conclusions about what kind of people the Greeks were.
             One of the major things that the Greeks told about in their stories was why something was the way it was. They loved to give very elaborate explanations for things. They talked about why mulberries are red. It was all based on the fate of Pyramus and Thisbe. They were two people in love who were forbidden to be together. They lived side by side, one wall apart. They talked through a tiny crack in the wall. The lovers planned to meet outside a tomb and run away together one night. Thisbe got there first and saw a lioness, she got away although she dropped her cloak, and the lion ripped it up. When Pyramus got there he assumed the worst and killed himself with a dagger. Then Thisbe came back, saw Pyramus's body, and killed herself too. The gods colored the mulberries red in memory of them (they were white previously). The Greeks also had explanations for the seasons. Demeter, the goddess of the earth, had a daughter named Persephone. She was the embodiment of spring. Hades, the god of the underworld, was in love with her and stole her. Demeter was so upset about this that she let everything on earth wither and die so it was eternally winter. Zeus saw what was going on and told Hades to let Persephone go. He did but he made her eat a seed that would make her have to come back to him for a quarter of the year. Although Demeter was glad to have her daughter back she was depressed every time she had to leave. Therefore we have winter when Persephone has to go live with Hades, and spring every time she returns. These stories show the
