After reading this case summary, I wonder how many families in the United States have experienced this, or even people I know. The story starts out with Alicia, who's 13, angry with her mother, Helen at a teen clinic. Helen is a mother of four, who recently married after her first husband, Alicia's father, was killed in a fire. Helen has the hard task of raising four children – three of them with the first husband, and one with her new husband, Jim. Helen works at a place called Anderson's and making only $800 per month, while Jim was going from job to job. It's always hard raising teenagers, especially one's that have bad attitudes, and are dating boys three and four years older, that of Alicia.
             Alicia is also hanging out with high school dropouts, and having sexual intercourse with her boyfriend without using birth control. Helen was a teenage mother when Alicia was born, and she stressed in the story how she didn't want Alicia to go down the same path as her. Helen was noticing multiple changes involving Alicia. Later on in the story, the family started having difficulties with one another. Jim was starting to be abusive against Helen and Alicia, and eventually left them. The family was having a hard time making ends meet, and Alicia was becoming out of control, having to take her because she didn't trust her going on her own.
             Once Helen went back to work for the Andersons' they came up to her asking if she wanted a small vacation away from all of what she was going through. There was just enough room for her and her youngest child, Jackie. This would be the chance for Helen to have a break from all of the chaos.
