Stolen

             The characters in Stolen are all victims of circumstances beyond their control. To what extent do you agree?
             When Children are born they are safe with their parents, they rely on their parents and need them to survive. For children to be taken away from their homes is not in their control. They cannot fend for themselves and therefore cannot stop things from happening to them, also they are so little and undeveloped that they don't really know what is going on around them. All they instinctively know is their mother. As they grow up they become more in control and get the chance to make their life their own.
             Ruby has suffered a lot during her life; being stolen from her family has made her life hard, having to live with other people's decisions; such as being forced to become a slave and being sexually abused. All these things are out of her control, which caused her to lose her mind and all hope for the future. Being taken away from her family, means that no one was there to help her cope or be with her. She was all alone.
             Jimmy, as an adult could have had more control in his life; he gave up all hope because of the past circumstances in his life, such as being chosen to live in to a white family and being abused. All Jimmy wanted was to have his mother and his family with him. When Jimmy's mother died, he couldn't go on anymore, he couldn't find anything more to hold onto and decides all he can do is end his life in a tragic way. He thinks that by killing himself he can be with his mother forever, "Someone's gotta fight, I just can't no more."
             Sandy has no control of being sent to the children's home, he always remembers how he was sent there. The can of peas that sent him there, taunts him forever. The thing that gets to Sandy the most is that the welfare agency gave them the peas in the first place. He was sent there all because of a use-by-date. When Sandy left the Chil
