Poe is very cleverly portrayed in all his tales. It is said that he has only
one repeating male character in his entire novel going through different
situations in life, himself. Poe himself had created these stories to fit the
situations he had believed that he had been through in his life, that is why all his
tales involve some sort of death, madness or disease because this is the pain that
he feel is equivalent to his life happenings(Hoban,pg.21) . The tricks in creating
atmosphere he largely derived from traditional Gothic Tales. But the
description of mental states and dark surroundings all relate to him personally at
specific times of his life(Buranelli,pg.42) . His character is repeated throughout
these scenarios as being melancholic, neurasthenic, hallucinated, mad and half
mad protagonists , also known as the main character in all his plots. It is
