Life Sentences and Capital Punishment

             Capital punishment is the legal infliction of death as a penalty for violating criminal law. In today's world, there is a lot of controversy over capital punishment. Two questions are being asked: Is capital punishment effective? And, is it morally right? People who are in favor of capital punishment say that the criminals deserve, it is the only form of compensation to the victim's family and it is for the safety of society. Those who oppose it say that it is immoral, nobody has the right to end another's life, it has no place in today's society and it is teaching our children revenge. The capital punishment I refer to is only to murderers.
             Capital punishment can be justified for several reasons. First of all, many murderers are serving only half their sentences being released on early parole. There are two reasons for this, "good behavior" and overcrowding in prisons. Do we want murderers walking among us "free" in society? I do not want a person who has murdered to be living near me or anyone else I know. What's to stop the person from committing the crime again? After all, they are expecting to serve the same lenient sentence. For this reason, the vast majority of the public is not happy, the only solution to this is the death penalty. Imagine for a moment that your loved one has been murdered; the only form of compensation is that the murderer has been found guilty and has a heavy sentence. How would you feel if one day you are buying groceries and you come face to face with the murderer? He or she has been released on early parole. Yes, they can come strolling down your local supermarket among you and honest civilians, and among your children. What about your loved one? They will never be given their life back because of "good behavior". They will never be able to come strolling down the supermarket aisle buying a pint of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream.
