             The Internet has transformed not only the book industry but the travel industry as well. Where traditional travel agents have been slow to realize, the industry is information-based. People have information regarding their destinations and when they want to take a trip before they begin. What they desire to find is an available seat, at a certain price. The Internet has made it easier for consumers to get their travel information as well as purchase their tickets online. As the travel industry changes to meet changing consumer needs, we are able to classify it into five different axioms. These axioms, or truths, fit to characterize the travel industry as being affected heavily by technology.
             Inefficient supply networks are at risk
             Airline tickets are one of the most popular items on the web. Private travel agents traditionally charge airlines 10% to talk to customers and book their orders (RosenSweat 1). Now individual consumers can enter their own orders and book tickets at home or with a Palm Pilot. The traditional travel agent or middleman has been left out. Customers can bypass them, check ticket prices and order from any number of web sites.
             First-movers gain advantage from scale
             Priceline.com is one of the largest travel agencies in the world. Between January 1st, 1999 to March 31st, 2000, Priceline sold 3.2 Million Airline tickets (Rosen/Sweat 2). Priceline.com allows travelers to suggest their own prices for airline tickets, hotel rooms, and even car rentals. Whether or not the company accepts it is at their discretion. Priceline enables the travel industry to sell seats that may have gone empty.
             New Delivery systems require big investments
