e it was not built to work in such low levels of power. The core was also filled with water, which it was never designed to hold. The operator tried to take control of the water flow manually but was unsuccessful because even small temperature changes can cause huge surges in power. The operator then turned off the emergency automatic shutdown program because he was afraid that it would force them to abort the test. By 1:22 am the operators thought they had the most stable conditions and they decided to start the test.
             At 1:23 the remaining turbine was shut down. Then the power in the reactor began to gradually rise and the operator began to start the manual shut down which caused a sharp increase in power. At 1:23:44 am on April 26, 1986 the disaster point, the reactor reached 120 times its normal power. All the fuel in it immediately disintegrated and the steam that was supposed to go through the turbines broke all the pressure tubes and blew off the entire top of the reactor.
             There were two major explosions at Chernobyl, the first destroyed the reactor number four, and the second blew lumps of fuel and graphite into the air. These lumps landed in a lot of dangerous places setting fires and destroying more property. The fires were only the first emergency.
