Play

             Play! What is it? Children play. Adults play. Play takes countless forms. A person may bounce a ball alone or join in a game of basketball with several other people. Play activity may or may not be planned ahead of time. It can take place anywhere, from an individual's mind to areas designed specifically for play.
             Play means a spontaneous activity to engage in recreation. It is any activity performed for amusement. Consider, for example, the young child of age nine who is from a wealthy family. All his life everything was planned out for him: what to wear, when to eat, when to speak, when to sleep, and when to learn. There was no time in his schedule to do anything fun. One day while the boy was studying in his room, he looked outside and saw a young boy on the grounds throwing rocks into the lake. He asked the boy outside, "Why are you doing that?" The boy replied, "It's fun." The boy in the window asked, "How could that be fun if you are not learning anything?" The boy outside said, "Come outside and try it. You might like it." The boy knew that he would get in trouble if he left his room. But, the boy's curiosity got the best of him. He climbed out the window to meet the boy in the field. They introduced themselves and off they went running and jumping through the field. After a while, the two boys went swimming in the lake where they splashed and raced each other. After swimming, they laid in the sun to get dry as they watch the clouds go by. The wealthy boy looked at his watch and said, "I have a music lesson in 30 minutes. I have to get back." As the two boys ran back to the wealthy boy's house, the wealthy boy said, "This was the best day I have ever had."
