In this story there were a few main characters with a minor conflict and only for a short period of time. First there was a miracle then a very small conflict then a huge miracle then another conflict. The Farquars had never had a child. When they finally had one, Teddy, they were so thankful, as well as the cook Gideon. Gideon was probably there the most to the young boy. The two became best friends. Gideon was there to encourage the young one, which he called "little yellow head." "When Teddy learned to walk it was often Gideon who crouched before him, clucking encouragement, finally catching him when he fell, tossing him up in the air till they both became breathless with laughter." Because of the way Gideon treated Teddy he gotten a raise in his pay. After teddy had begun to grow up, his attitude began to change. Gideon was a Native African. When the young boy had started to grow up, around 6 years of age, he had gotten a scooter. One day there was a young native around his property and when he spotted him he started to ride in circles around and around him... then the young scared boy ran away. Gideon had asked Teddy why he had done that and he just replied: "He's only a black boy," this of course offended him. Teddy cared for Gideon so much that he wanted to do anything to make it up to him. Gideon of course forgave him. One day while the young boy was riding his scooter and as he stopped for a rest a snake had crawled up into his leg, suddenly the snake spat poison into his eyes.
"... Teddy came staggering into the kitchen with his fists to his eyes, shrieking with pain..." as soon as Gideon had seen this he "... dropped the pot full of hot soup that he was holding..." Teddy's mother came into the kitchen and not to long after Gideon ran outside to get his own kind of medicine. In the condition that the boy's eyes were in he would of gone blind if Gideon had ...
