It was a Tuesday afternoon I had just started work and everything that day seemed to be normal and fine. When over the PA system we hear this old cracking voice "code blue ICU" then about 10 seconds later it's said again "code blue ICU" every time you hear that you heart seems to stop for a second. Then all the other orderly's and I rush to ICU to try and save this person.
             This was only was my 4th or 5th code so I was still new to the whole thing, and was excited to go and save a life. This code was the same as the others, an older person not responding and intubated. When I got there the doctor and the code blue team were all there. So I put my gloves on and started the CPR. About 3 minutes into the code everyone's beeper always goes off it's like a mini symphony. Someone always says something about it to lighten the mood. I was doing compressions for about 8 minutes then I got tired so I let Mark take over. It was just me and him there to do compressions. So we both tried to do them as long was we could so the other could get a break. When Mark was working on the lady the whole family was outside of the room watching; this was really eerie to me, and strange. This family actually wanted to see there family member either die or go through the great deal of pain. It was hard to do CPR and look up and see the Son or Daughter looking in my eye's begging me to save there mom's life. Finally after 40 min's of CPR we saved her.
             When I walked out of the room the whole family came and gave me the doctor and the other orderly a huge hug. We all felt good about the success of what we had just done. When I got back up to the 5th floor I started my normal day just running things around the hospital. Fifteen minutes after the last code we hear it again "Code blue ICU" "Code Blue ICU".
