Most people go through life doing what they are told to do and that is it. They don't care what they have to do or how it is done just as long as it gets done! However, is it really their own work if they do not put any enthusiasm in it? They can not really be satisfied with something that did not come from inside their mind, not their body. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." Some might say that I have been preaching this quote ever since I have heard it 3 years ago.
             When I was in eighth grade, I had a planner that had a different quote each day on the top of the page. Well, when I first read Emerson's quote I disregarded it, not really thinking of the real meaning of the statement. Then a week later one of my teachers made a general comment to the class. He said something about how no one in the class toke their work seriously. We all just did what we had to do not really caring about it or making an effort to relate to it. He said he wanted to see more enthusiasm in our work. Right there in class it hit me and I repeated Emerson's quote. My teacher was surprised that I knew and said something like that. When I went home that day I really started thinking. "That is an excellent statement. A very true statement"
             Emerson is really trying to prove a point in his statement. You can't achieve anything if you are not happy with what you are doing. Ask any rich man who took over the "family business" because it was expected of him, if he is truly happy. I bet a hundred dollars he is not. He didn't put in any enthusiasm in his work. How could he? He was forced to do it! Some may think that enthusiasm in work is not that big of a deal, but it is.
             Emerson has had a huge impact on my life. Now whenever I do anything I always try to find a way that that task pertains to me. Every thing I do now is done with enthusiasm. Emerson&apos
