A person who conforms to the ideals of his society is a hero. Heroes from Greek tragedies and modern day tragedies compared are extremely dissimilar. Even the theory of Aristotle has to be changed for today's time. Elements that make up a Greek tragedy is still involved in modern tragedies and has almost never changed. The protagonist will go through love and death and other struggles that rises to his/her challenge.
             If asked, "what makes a tragedy?", one of the first answer someone will receive today is a story involving love and death. This answer comes from what people have seen on T.V as modern tragedies. Compared to the Greek tragedies that we have read in class, there wasn't a single compelling love story that appeared. In Romeo Must Die, a love story existed throughout the entire story between an Asian man and a Black women. Already an essential difference between the tragedies has been seen. One of the main things that makes a tragedy a tragedy is the fact that if something was to happen to the main character or to one of his acquaintances, the person did not deserve it. Compared to Romeo Must Die in this area, Han's (Jet Li's character) father dies by his own hands. He definitely deserved what came to him, though compared to Greek tragedies where you felt pity towards the character, you did not feel pity towards Han's father at all. Prometheus was bounded for challenging Zeus's might, Oedipus lost his eyes and his homeland for his sinful deed of sleeping with his mom, and Pentheus lost his life for challenging the power of a god but for each of them, the audience felt pity for the character.
