Magazines

            
             The contents of a magazine consist of many different parts. The advertising is one of the largest parts that make up a magazine and its not uncommon for advertising to take up more than half the magazine. Another large part are the editorials and interviews, which are usually why people end of buying the magazines in the first place. The magazine I chose to analyze, AMP magazine consists largely of these to parts and I think that it is a great example of a magazine with a very specific target audience, that includes myself. I doubt that people are going to analyze a magazine that they do not enjoy reading.
             American Music Press, or AMP for short is a consumer special interest magazine focused largely towards fans of alternative music. it's a bi-monthly magazine that costs $1.99 and tax and usually comes with a few sample CD's for smalltime bands and sometimes stickers. The kind of people that buy AMP are usually fans of underground or lesser known bands and artists and it gets people to buy the magazine by providing lengthy interviews and guest columns by the bands themselves. I think that people are attracted to this magazine because it usually features a band on the cover and fans of the band or that particular kind of people will notice and will want to read what some of their favorite bands have to say. Another way AMP attracts readers is by filling their magazine with promotional material, its not uncommon to receive four or five sample CD's from various small time record companies.
             Or the 248 pages that make up AMP magazine, I'd say that more than 130 pages are advertising. and the rest make up editorials and interviews. It's obvious that this magazine survives by the advertising. many of the bands that this magazine features will also feature a large full page advertisement. Although the ads and the interviews are not always in the same section. I'm sure that it is the record companies id...
