Anxiety

             During our life, their will be times when we encounter situations that will make us feel nervous and uncomfortable. The feeling of discomfort when faced with an awkward situation is a major factor when talking about anxiety. This is not uncommon for most people. The key is to learn how to deal with this problem. If it is not handled properly, it can lead to depression.
             James L. Collier, as well other people in the world, has a fear of being in strange countries. Thinking about being away from home made him scared and homesick. Due to this fear, he had to give up an opportunity to see a fabled country. Thinking about being in a strange place made him depressed. The question he faced was this, is it worse being anxious or being depressed? Of course the feeling of both is not very pleasant, but in his opinion, it is harder to fight depression than it is to fight anxiety.
             Being afraid of a new situation should not stop us from doing what we want. We have to be confident about ourselves in order to conquer our fears. This confidence will help us not only "kill" the anxiety but it will stop us from being depressed. It is not a guarantee that being confident will put an end to any anxiety we might have, but it will make it easier for people to face when the situation arises. Mr. Collier's rule "do what makes you anxious; do not do what makes you depressed" is definitely the right stand to take in order to handle these situations. The feeling will still be there, but not enough to make us anxious. People will feel better about themselves each and every time they get over and anxious situation.
             If we know what is causing anxiety, it will be easier for us to find a way to stop it. After we realize the cause of our anxiety, we should stop calling it a problem and accept that anxiety is a common burden among people.
